Based in Hamburg, Germany, Bauer headquarters distributes magazines across Europe including: , and . It was founded in 1875 by the Bauer family and remains a family business after five generations. The current CEO and owner of 85% of the company Yvonne Bauer currently employ 11,000 people in different areas across Europe.
Originally the group entered the UK with Bella magazine in 1987 which allowed them to expand and become Britain’s 3rd largest publishing company. They expanded further by buying Emap consumer media and Emap radio in 2008. In 2012 Yvonne Bauer took over the company from Heinz Hienrich after joining the business in 2005. The H Bauer UK group acquired APC (Australian publishing company) allowing them to turn over €2 billion.
The UK now has 2 divisions of The Bauer Media group. The original group known as H Bauer publishing owned by CEO David Goodchild and a second known as Bauer Media owned by Paul Keenan. H Bauer’s first UK published magazine was a 1987 issue of Bella. After releasing a woman’s magazine named Take a Break their brands further published puzzle magazines that carry the Take a Break name. In 1991 H Bauer launched TVQuick magazine. After production of this ceased, they released TV Choice at a lower price. Finally, in 2008, they released TV guide.
National radio brands such asKISS FM UK and Magic are owned by Bauer Media as well as lesser known stations such as Absolute Radio Group from Times of India. They also broadcast TV music channels such as The Box TV, in a partnership with Channel 4.
